ICSS was established under comapnies and allied matters decree of 1990 of federal republic of Nigeria as a professional, educational and regulatory body to train, educate and research into crimes and criminality with the aim of reducing crime in the society. The institute's vision is to become number one professional body for criminology, security and peace studies in Africa and among the best in the world. ICSS was officially registered and approved by the Federal Ministry of Justice. Federal Ministry of Education and Corporate Affairs Commisions with Registration no 1050216. ICSS is blessed with world class, proven security experts and board room giants under the leadership of Dr. Ade Abolurin Dfes PhD, PSc+, OFR (The first Commander General of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC)

Terrorism: The city has been a target of terrorist attacks, which have resulted in loss of life and property.
